A study analysed ca. 300 ancient human genomes from Scandinavia spanning 2,000 years, revealing influences from the Eastern Baltic and the British Isles over the Scandinavian Viking Age DNA.

On 17 January 2023, professor Kristel Zilmer (University of Oslo) reported the discovery of the oldest runestone unearthed in Scandinavia, dating from ca.1-250 AD.
Until now, it was believed that runes started to be carved in stone in Scandinavia only during the IVth century AD.
